Baby Tantrums
How To Deal With Baby Tantrums
When it comes to remedies for baby tantrums, you have to first look at how old the child is. Babies who are under the age of one should be treated differently than older toddlers. But either way, when a baby has a fit in the middle of a public place, it can be very embarrassing. It is a good idea to pay close attention to exactly when a baby starts to become upset. Baby tantrums are easy to take care of, if you get to the root of the problem.
The first time your baby has a full blown tantrum it might scare you. The child may start to scream, he may become abusive with you and other family members or he may just simply sit down and refuse to move. Baby tantrums are the loss of emotional control and in children under one year of age; this can mean that they are in need of something. They may also still be too young to let you know what they need or want. This can be frustrating for the baby, so start to go through the things that the baby may be in need of. Here are some common reasons for baby tantrums.
The first thing to check is, if the baby needs food or water. A baby may not even know how to tell you, that they are hungry or thirsty. They might want a specific type of food. Try to calm the baby down and let it show you what it wants instead of trying to explain it. If a baby becomes frightened by a person or situation he may act out. The best thing to do in this situation is to remove the baby from the room and comfort him until he feels better. When a baby is extremely tired, he can try to fight sleep. Usually the toddler will feel like he is missing out on something if he isn’t allowed to stay up with the rest of the family. It helps to give the child a quiet activity like coloring or you can read him a book while he is lying in bed. You will want to put him in a quiet and calm environment.
An inability to communicate is a big problem when it comes to baby tantrums. This is why it is so important to teach the child in every way. For example, if you are doing the dishes and the child wants to help, let him. Give him a simple task and let him feel as though he is helping. Toddlers love to learn and they can become bored and unsettled if they have nothing to do. Make sure that the toddler has many toys and books that teach the child the basics.
When a child is over the age of one, he may have tantrums for the same reasons but he can also be testing you. A child needs limitations and if the toddler knows that reacting by screaming and making a scene will get him what he wants, he will continue the bad behavior until you stop it. The solutions for baby tantrums over the age of one are a bit more difficult.
If you are having problems with a child who is acting up in public, the solution is pretty simple. Do not take the child with you. If a child acts up in a grocery store and constantly begs and pleads for candy, leave him at home. If the baby tantrums are in the home make sure the child isn’t hungry or tired. If he does not want anything, take him to a quiet area until he calms down. This can mean a time out until the child improves his behavior.
